Pallet Table.

I don’t remember off the top of my head why we had pallets stacked up in the backyard, but we did.  We must have decided not to do whatever we had originally intended to do with them, so we decided to take them apart and make something out of them.  We decided to construct an outdoor table to display some succulents on and we wanted to use only stuff that came on the pallets (so basically, wood and nails). We salvaged a ton of rusty nails which ended up being the method we used to keep this thing from falling apart :)

.
Salvaged nails.

.
Then we started picking through the disassembled pallets finding pieces that would work well, and we ripped down some of those pieces into shorter sections that would make up the table top area:

.
One of the pallets had the words “SWEET DARLING” branded onto it.  It was cool enough to be saved and constructed at the forefront of the table:

.
As you can see, the table top was constructed kind of like a train track as was the bottom shelf:
.
These look like stilts (because we don’t really know how to build furniture). The little blocks we mounted to the leg posts act as the resting place for the bottom shelf:
.
Here’s the whole thing assembled, (note the location of the “SWEET DARLING” piece) sanded and coated with Thompson’s Water Seal.  It looked a little better before the water seal was applied…..it wasn’t as dark.  Before the water seal was applied it looked more like something you could buy at Anthropologie for $1k :)
.
Wood textures in this project.
.
Finally, it found it’s new home outside…ready to display some succulents and brave the elements!
.
We hope you enjoyed seeing this thing come along.  We sure enjoyed building it!

You just never stop being creative, do you? Also, hope you’re up to date on your tetanus shots with all those rusty nails around! Nice work, kids!

One quick question- did you pre-drill the nail holes? I’ve been messing around witgh pallets and have had a terrible time with the wood splitting. I was wondering if you ran into the same issue.

Thanks Sarah

BTW- the table is wonderful!

Hi Sarah, thanks for the comment, glad you like the table! To answer your question, no we didn’t pre-drill the holes. If you’re having trouble with the wood splitting you may want to try pre-drilling. It will of course take a little longer though. You could also use a nail gun if you have one, but if you’re wanting to recycle the rusty nails so you can see the nail heads, a nail gun probably won’t do the trick. Sorry, that’s all the advice we have…we’re amateurs and we have no idea what we’re doing, haha! :)

Hi, love this table and need to make one. Would you happen to have the dimensions of this and the instructions of how you made it? Did you use only the boards from the pallet to make it?

I’m going to make the pallet table for a friend.
